The Wines of Madrid Appellation of Origin covers the entire Autonomous Community of Madrid, located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, and in turn includes three subzones where wines are produced: Arganda del Rey, San Martin de Valdeiglesias and Navalcarnero, a total, 7,500 hectares of own vineyards and 54 municipalities of the Community of Madrid. The Appellation of Origin Vinos de Madrid was created in 1990, thus being protected by the Regulatory Board after they became wines in high demand by consumers. They are wines with a high quality and have received many awards, exporting well to countries such as the United States, Germany, Belgium or Japan.

The soils of the O.D. Wines of Madrid are, in the sub-area of ​​Valdeiglesias, brown soils on granite base and sandy , and acid soils in the sub-area of ​​Navalcarnero. The vineyards are located at a height of between 500-800 meters above sea level. The climate is continental, with extreme temperatures in both winter and summer, with rainfall of around 400-600 mm.

In the Designation of Origin Vinos de Madrid 12 grape varieties are produced.

Red grapes: Garnacha, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.
White grapes: Albillo, Malvar, Airén, Small grain Muscat, Parellada, Torrontés, Viura and Macabeo.
For the elaboration of these wines, the Regulatory Council sets standards, thus establishing different aging periods for Reserva, Gran Reserva, Crianza, white and rosé wines.
