Jumilla

The Appellation of Origin Jumilla was created in 1966 and is located in the Southeast of Spain, specifically in the north of the Murcia region and southeast of Albacete (45% of the vineyards are in Murcia and the rest belong to the province of Albacete). In total, this D.O. covers 32,000 hectares of vineyards and 2,900 hectares of vineyards in production. There are 42 producing wineries protected under the Jumilla Designation of Origin.

The vineyards of Jumilla are in an altitude between 400 and 800 meters. The soils of Jumilla are limestone, with medium permeability and great water capacity, which allows the vines to survive in drought seasons, since they take advantage of the available water in a very efficient way. The climate is Mediterranean Continental softened by the occasional influence of winds from the Mediterranean. Thermal contrasts are frequent, with high temperatures in summer and minimum temperatures below zero in winter. The average temperature is about 15ºC.

The most common variety in the Appellation of Origin Jumilla is the Monastrell grape, which represents 80% of the cultivated area, although other grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache or Cencibel are also produced. Between the wines they emphasize rosé wines, Made with short macerations, with raspberry and cherry tones and fruit aromas. They are very elegant, tasty and fresh wines as they pass through the mouth.
