Rias Baixas

In 1988, the Rías Baixas Appellation of Origin was created. The growth was such that, between 1987 and 2011, it went from 492 vine growers to 6617 vine growers and from 14 wineries to 181 in wineries. The conditions in which these wines are developed are very special. It is lowland near the sea, a climate with mild temperatures and rainfall throughout the year. In 2011, the D.O. Rías Baixas had more than 28.6 million litres of wine elaborated.

The Rías Baixas Designation of Origin is located in the province of Pontevedra and in the south of the province of A Coruña, a privileged enclave. It is also divided into the sub-areas of Val do Salnés, Condado do Tea, O Rosal, Soutomaior and Ribeira do Ulla. This area is the main producer of the Albariño grape variety, although the Loureira and Treixadura varieties are also produced, among others.

The white wines produced in the D.O. Rías Baixas are wines with an intense and fruity aroma, dry and with a prolonged and very fine aftertaste. The famous Albariño wines are very bright straw yellow, medium intensity, fresh and soft. In short, very nice and attractive wines for the consumer with an alcohol content between 11 and 13 degrees, the Albariño variety occupies 94% of the vineyards.
