The Apellation of Origin Toro was born in 1987, and currently consists of 51 wineries endorsed by the Regulatory Council. This denomination takes the same name as the city Toro, in Zamora. Specifically, the production area of ​​this denomination covers the entire southeast of the province of Zamora and southwest of the province of Valladolid, embraceing the regions of Tierra del Vino, Tierra de Toro, Valle de Guareña, Tierra del Pan and Tierra de Campos. In total, more than 60,000 hectares of land and just over 1,200 registered wine growers.

The vineyards are located between 620 and 750 meters above sea level. The climate is Continental Mediterranean, and rainfall ranges between 350 and 400 mm per year. Winters are rigorous (which implies extreme minimum temperatures and the prolongation of periods of frost) and short summers, not excessively hot and with important thermal oscillations between day and night.

The Toro Appellation of Origin produces, the varieties Tinta de Toro, Garnacha, Verdejo and Malvasía. The red wines are elaborated fundamentally with the Tinta de Toro variety, obtaining very balanced and mature wines.
