The Somontano Denomination of Origin was born in 1984 and since then it has consolidated as a prestigious area. Currently this D.O. produces quality wines appreciated by consumers. These are pure wines, with personality, fresh and fruity, with delicate aromas, deep colors and great intensity. The Somontano Denomination of Origin is located in the province of Huesca, the cultivation area is specifically concentrated in the town of Barbastro.

Somontano O.D. is constituted by up to 525 vine-growers and 4,700 hectares of vineyards. The soil is composed of sand and clay, as well as limestone and alluvial material. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 350 and 750 meters above sea level, with exceptional weather conditions (continental climate) for the cultivation of the vine: contrasts in temperature with cold winters and hot summers, natural balance between rain , sun, humidity and temperature. The average rainfall is 500 mm.

There are 15 grape varieties that are produced in this denomination.

Red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Moristel, Garnacha tinta, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Parraleta
White varieties: Chardonnay, Macabeo, Gewürztraminer, White Garnacha, Alcañón, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.
