Elaboration
Paniagua Brandy is a wine distillate, aged in oak barrels for a period of more than one year.
One of the basic differences between brandy and other spirits lies precisely in the raw material that is distilled. Distillation of wine almost always results in 36-60% alcohol by volume. It is considered made with grape wine.
The origin of brandy is uncertain, although it is suspected that it appeared in ancient Greece and Rome, and even earlier, from ancient Babylon. However, what is certainly known is that its popularity spread in the 14th century.
The distillation of wine was a preservation method to make it easier to transport to merchants. The intention was to add the water separated from the brandy again in the distillation, shortly before consumption. It was later discovered that if stored in wooden barrels, the resulting product improved considerably compared to the original wine.
