The Tanqueray Distillery was born in the London Borough of Bloomsbury by Charles Tanqueray.

Tanqueray is the distillery created by Charles Tanqueray in England. It was in the year 1830 when this priest established his first distillery which he called "Bloomsbury Distillery". After Charles's death, the secret recipe for his distillate was inherited by his oldest son, Charles Waugh Tanqueray, who dealt with his father's legacy at just 20 years old.

In 1922 it was merged with 6 other distillers from where The Distillers Company emerged. In 1923 Guinness bought the company creating United Distillers and a year later John Tanqueray retired and was the last member of the company to work at the company.

After a bombing in World War II in 1941 the distillery was destroyed and all that was left was a copper alembic, called "Old Tom", which is now more than 200 years old.

In 1988 the Tanqueray production moved to Scotland.
