Bodega Viñedos Del Contino was born thanks to the support of Bodegas CVNE and the owners of a 62-hectare estate in La Rioja Alavesa.
The building dates back to the 16th century, the oldest chateau in La Rioja. The production of the wines in this cellar is carried out by means of an individual system of harvesting the grapes from the vines that surround the cellar itself.
They have a total of 62 hectares in Laserna belonging to the town of Laguardia. An exceptional location protected by the Cerro de la Mesa and close to the Ebro river. The vineyard is divided into three terraces with calcareous sandy soil.
In the origins of the cellar they only had stone presses for the maceration of the grapes, currently they have 32 stainless steel tanks. The grapes when harvested and go through an exhaustive selection go on to ferment, differentiating by plots, in tanks of reduced capacity. They also have a warehouse with six concrete tanks and four French oak vats and a room equipped with heaters for malolactic fermentation.
The aging of the wines is carried out at a depth of three meters in a total of 2,000 barrels of French (70%), American (20%) and Hungarian (10%) oak. The wines rest in cellars of more than 400 years old.
