El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970 and has gradually become one of the most important brands in La Rioja.
El Coto de Rioja is one of the most important wineries in La Rioja founded in 1970. It is located in Oyón and after the expansion of the facilities with 12 independent buildings in 2000 it became the leading brand in Spain in sales volume.
In 2004 one of its farms: Finca los Almendros received the certification as the largest farm in the entire D.O.Ca Rioja.
The last project of the cellar is a new cellar in the Finca carbonera to be able to make the wines of the white varieties that are vinified in this estate. In total, the cellar has 8 farms distributed throughout the DO that add up to a total of 730 hectares of its own vineyard, the largest vineyard area in La Rioja.
The La Rioja Alta vineyard is located mainly in the town of Cenicero and surroundings, normally located at a high altitude. As for La Rioja Alavesa, the vineyards are located in Elvillar de Álava, Yécora and Oyón. Here is also the vineyard of Carbonera, the highest in Rioja.
The cellar produces its wines following tradition, so its 50,000-liter tanks have wide mouths to imitate open presses. Its park of barrels is a total of 70,000 units.
In 2016, They received the award for the best Spanish cellar from the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). Its wines are exported to more than 70 countries.
