The Appellation of Origin Yecla was created in 1972 and is located northeast of the province of Murcia. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 500 and 800 meters above sea level.
The climate of Yecla is Mediterranean with continental features and is characterized by having long, cold winters and hot summers with extreme temperatures. The precipitations in this zone oscillate around the 300 mm.
The prevailing variety in the D.O. Yecla is the Monastrell grape, although other varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon (red), Macabeo and Chardonnay (white) are also grown.
