Bodega Montebaco is located as well as its vineyards, in the municipalities of Valbuena del Duero and Pesquera del Duero in the Appellation of Origin Ribera del Duero.
Bodega Montebaco is located in the province of Valladolid, specifically in two municipalities, Valbuena del Duero and Pesquera del Duero. The cellar and the vineyards share space in the same place.
The first plantation was made in 1987 of the tinto fino variety, a total of 20 hectares. Currently the cellar has 50 hectares of vineyards and is also present in the Appellation Rueda since 2005 when they acquire a small plantation of Verdejo grape vineyard and they are currently vinified from 25,000 to 30,000 kilos of grapes. In 1994 the first wine was produced from the farm, in a renovated building that was the old dairy.
The vineyards are located at a height of 850-900 meters above the sea level and surrounding the building of the cellar and confers special geoclimatic conditions that make Montebaco an island within the denomination. There are two different types of pruning in the cellar: the pruning in winter that is short and two buds and the pruning in green during the months of May and June.
The climate of the zone is extreme continental with dry summers, and great daily thermal changes which favors the correct maturation of the grape. The average annual rainfall is 500 mm. In addition, there is a large seasonal and daily thermal oscillation, which produces a proper maturation of the grapes.
The soils are clay-calcareous sedimentary character, which limit the production of wine and reinforce its character.
The main variety with which the cellar works is Tinto Fino but they also have Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The plantations are made since 1987
The harvest is done by hand and in boxes of 20 kilograms and oscillates at around 4,000 kg per hectare.
