The Macallan 12 Year Old Triple Cask ​was known before as The Macallan 12 year Fine Oak. It is aged in european oak barrels, which previously contained sherry, American oak barrels​,​ which previously contained sherry and  American oak barrels which previously contained bourbon.

The Macallan distillery, funded in 1824, was one of the first in Scotland to be legally licensed and is located in a historic region such as the Highlands.
