The Abadía Retuerta cellar is located in the center of the Spanish Golden Wine Mile, in Valladolid, between Tudela de Duero and Peñafiel.
The Abadía Retuerta cellar was designed in 1996 and is a combination of modernity and tradition, considered one of the most advanced cellars in Europe. It occupies a land of 10,000 square meters where a limited quantity of wines is produced, with quality prevailing over quantity.
The climate of the place is characterized by cold winters and very hot summers, with big changes in temperature between day and night, which favors notably the correct maturation of the grape.
The philosophy of this winery consists of the making of Pago wines, in particular 54 plots where each soil has different characteristics: clays, pebbles and sands in the hillside, gravel in the lower layers and limestone in the heights. So each Pago produces a different type of grape that gives rise to heterogeneous wines.
The vineyards are located on the slopes facing north, reaching heights of up to 850 meters. Strains more than 20 years old and with different soils, which leads to variations in the yield of each Pago and therefore to grapes with different qualities.
Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2019 is made with Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with the best grapes of each one of the Payments of the cellar. A very expressive, balanced and deeply aromatic wine.
The cellar is located in the Duero Valley, although not within the D.O. and its objective is to make kind wines, with quality and international recognition.
