Bodegas Recaredo was born in 1924 when its founder Josep Mata Capellanes takes the name of his father Recaredo Mata Figueres, to give name to this cellar specialized in cavas.
The history of Bodegas Recaredo begins in 1924 when Josep Mata Capellanes begins the construction of the cellars under his house in Barcelona.
Josep Mata Capellanes will be a pioneer in the production of sparkling Brut Nature with oak barrels and in long-aging cavas with protagonist xarel.io. In 1962, the first harvest was made from the Private Reserve of Recaredo, a wine that represents the Mediterranean.
The grape varieties used in this cellar are Xarel.io, Macabeo, Parellada, Monastrell and Garnacha. All of them from their own vineyards. They have a total of 65 hectares of vineyard located between forests, hills and streams.
Bodegas Recaredo use sustainable viticulture without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or fungicides. In this way, Recaredo will be the first winegrower from DO Cava and Penedés to become certified as biodynamic agriculture by Demeter in 2010.
The 1999 vintage becomes special when seeing the light in 2008 and being the first cava made from a single vine and variety, with more than 100 months in contact with its lees.
In 2010 Bodegas Recaredo specializes in the production of Gran Reserva cavas with a minimum aging of 30 months. Recaredo is chosen "Best cellar in Catalonia 2017" by the Catalan Sommeliers Association (ACS).
