The Mancha

The La Mancha Denomination of Origin is the largest wine-growing region in the world, and one of the regions with the largest vineyard area in all of Europe. This area is located in the Central Plateau of the Iberian Peninsula, thus hosting 182 municipalities in the provinces of Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Albacete and Toledo. Grape cultivation here dates back to the Middle Ages.

The climate is continental with extreme temperatures and great thermal variations. Variable rainfall makes grape cultivation optimal.

The varieties of grapes produced in this denomination are:

  • White grapes grown in the area are: Airén, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo, Moscatel de Gran Menudo, Pedro Ximénez, Parellada, Torrontés, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Viognier.
  • Red grapes : Tempranillo, Garnacha, Moravia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Graciano, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir.
