Distillery

Masataka Taketsuru is the father of Japanese whiskey, he founded the Nikka distillery in 1934 after studying the production process in Scotland for years. The facility spans more than 132,000 m² from Yoichi, a town west of Sapporo, near Otaru. In addition, they are open to the public.

The distillery is surrounded by mountains and, in turn, overlooks the Sea of ​​Japan. It is one of the driest and most peated whiskeys. Few distilleries in Japan use coal combustion to heat the stills, which are also subject to filtration of polluting elements.
