The Yecla Denomination of Origin was created in 1972 and is located northeast of the province of Murcia. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 500 and 800 meters above sea level .
Yecla's climate is Mediterranean with continental features and is characterized by having long, cold winters and hot summers with extreme temperatures. Precipitation in this area ranges around 300 mm.
The reigning variety in the DO Yecla is the Monastrell grape , although other varieties are also grown such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon (reds), Macabeo and Chardonnay (whites).
