Wineries

The Marqués de Murrieta winery is a major producer of Rioja wine since in 1852 Don Luciano Muerrieta produced the first Rioja wines, becoming the first exporter of wine outside the Iberian Peninsula. Don Luciano traveled to Bordeaux to learn the winemaking techniques that he would later use in Spain. He established the French château concept on the Ygay estate where he had the emblematic Ygay Castle built.

In 1983 Vicente D. Cebrián-Sagarriga, tenth Count of Creixell, transformed the winery and continued the founder's legacy. Subsequently, the Conde de Creixell family has been updating the Riojan winery, introducing a young and qualified team, capable of combining modern techniques with traditional ones, placing Marqués de Murrieta in the 21st century as a leading winery in Rioja wines.

Buying Capellanía at Copa de Balón is simple and allows you to enjoy the best white wine from La Rioja.
