VT. Extremadura is used to designate wines from the Extremadura region made with grapes produced in wine-growing areas of the autonomous community of Extremadura, which meet certain requirements. The VT. Extremadura was regulated in 1999 and has a geographical area of 7,264 hectares.
The grape varieties currently accepted for VT.Extremadura are:
- Red Grapes: Bobal, Mazuela, Monastrell, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
- White Grapes: Alarije, Borba, Cayetana Blanca, Chardonnay, Chelva, Malvar, Viura, Parellada, Pedro Ximénez, Verdejo.
