The Apellation of Origin Toro was born in 1987, and currently consists of 51 wineries endorsed by the Regulatory Council. This denomination takes the same name as the city Toro, in Zamora. Specifically, the production area of this denomination covers the entire southeast of the province of Zamora and southwest of the province of Valladolid, embraceing the regions of Tierra del Vino, Tierra de Toro, Valle de Guareña, Tierra del Pan and Tierra de Campos. In total, more than 60,000 hectares of land and just over 1,200 registered wine growers.
The vineyards are located between 620 and 750 meters above sea level. The climate is Continental Mediterranean, and rainfall ranges between 350 and 400 mm per year. Winters are rigorous (which implies extreme minimum temperatures and the prolongation of periods of frost) and short summers, not excessively hot and with important thermal oscillations between day and night.
The Toro Appellation of Origin produces, the varieties Tinta de Toro, Garnacha, Verdejo and Malvasía. The red wines are elaborated fundamentally with the Tinta de Toro variety, obtaining very balanced and mature wines.

The Appellation of Origin Bierzo was created in 1989 and is located in the northwest of the province of León, within the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. This area has many peculiarities with respect to the rest of denominations of origin of our country.
It is a geoclimatic zone delimited by a crown of mountains, which makes the climate very benign, without cold winds. In summer there is a very extreme climate in the Bierzo, with high temperatures during the day and very low during the night, which makes the grapes mature slowly and have a better color. The annual precipitations are about 721 millimeters and the average temperature 12ºC.
Despite being the smallest area in the vineyard world, this makes El Bierzo one of the competitive advantages that makes its variety so rich. This old vineyards, in spite of giving less quantity of grape, have much more quality. They are vineyards with atomized plots and terrains with slope, from 450 to 800 meters high, with hills oriented to the four cardinal points.
The local varieties that stand out are, in red wines, the Mencía variety (which represents 74.5% of the grapes grown in the production area) and in white wines, the Godello variety. They are varieties that produce very rich, complex and structured wines. Other varieties such as Garnacha Tintorera, Palomino grape and Malvasía are also produced in El Bierzo. These wines are produced by the 77 wineries attached to the Bierzo Designation of Origin.
V.T. Castilla y León is a protected geographical Appellation (Vinos de la Tierra Castilla y León). The wines are made with grapes from the same Autonomous Community. However, the wines produced in Castilla y León but which already have their own designation of origin, such as, Bierzo, Tierras de León, Toro, Cigales, Ribera del Duero, are not included in the Castilla y León Wines. The area of V.T. Castilla y León encompasses more than 300 municipalities in the provinces of Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora.
The V.T. Castilla y León produces red, white and rosé wines. The climate is continental Mediterranean, with few precipitations and very diverse soils, all framed by a landscape where the Duero basin and the northern sub-plateau coincide, where the mountains surround the vineyards.
The Wines of V.T. Castilla y León were born thanks to the impulse of many traditional winemakers, who wanted a regulation and a quality control for their wines. Castilla y León has a rich wine culture, and here we can find centenary wineries and producers of great quality wines.
The white grape varieties allowed in the V.T Castilla y León are Albillo, Malvasía, Verdejo, Doña Blanca, Godello, Sauvignon Blanc, small grain Muscat, Viura, Palomino and Chardonnay.
The red grape varieties allowed in V.T. Castilla y León are Mencía, Prieto Picudo, Tempranillo, Juan Garcia, Rufete, Pinot Noir, Garnacha tinta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chelva, Garnacha Roja, Garnacha Tintorera, Malbec, Merlot, Negral, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Graciano.
The Cigales Appellation of Origin extends within the area of the province of Valladolid, and its most important municipality is Cigales, 13 km from the capital of the province. The main varieties of this D.O. are Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Verdejo and Albillo.
The wines produced in this Appellation are clean and bright rosés with aromas of fresh and ripe fruit; red wines with cherry and ruby red color and fruity aromas of the forest; and finally white wines of clean and bright yellow color with fresh, acidic and light sensations. Sparkling wines and cavas are also produced.
Ribera del Duero is the oldest and most relevant Appellation of Origin in the Community of Castilla y León. Its Regulatory Board celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008. Around 200 wineries belong to this D.O with more than 600 brands, which promote wine tourism in the area.
More than 100 municipalities of the provinces of Burgos, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid belong to this Appellation. It's a wine-producing area of about 115 km long and 35 km wide.
Wine and vineyards have long been part of the culture of the lands and people that inhabit the heart of the Douro. 2.000 years ago the great wealth of this land and its potential to produce quality wines was already known. With a continental climate, the D.O. Ribera del Duero is characterized by very hot summers of up to 40 degrees and very cold winters with temperatures below zero, all accompanied by sudden storms and intense frost. Climatic contrasts to extremes that alter the course of the vineyards. The Ribera del Duero has an average of 450 mm of rain per year.
Nature itself and the passage of time have contributed to create a soil of silty and clayey sands. There are many factors involved in the development of a Ribera del Duero wine. Manual harvesting continues to prevail in this area, the collection and selection of the fruit is particularly important because only the best grapes are accepted to achieve a high quality wine, the rest are discarded.
The star variety is Tempranillo, also known as Tinta del País or Tinto Fino, it is responsible for the color, aroma and body characteristics of the Ribera del Duero wines. The other red varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Garnacha. The Albillo is the only white variety allowed. The rosé wines produced in the Ribera del Duero are fruity and fresh, with an attractive acidity. The young red wines, of deep color, are broad in fruity aromas and full of flavor. The aged reds are velvety and of powerful structure, fruit and wood perfectly assembled. And reserve red wines and large reserves are intense and elegant, of attractive complexity and they are among the longest living wines in the world.
